UPDATE WORDPRESS - avoid being hacked

There has been a recent string of Wordpress hackings. Hacking scripts gain access to accounts via outdated Wordpress installs, outdated plugins, and recently through the default Wordpress themes such as 'twentytwelve' and 'twentyfourteen'. These accounts then proceed to be used for phishing sites (stealing credit cards from unsuspecting victims who think they are on a legitimate large site). Each infected account puts our server at risk.


IMPORTANT – BOTTOM LINE
Please take the time TODAY to run the updates on any blog on your account, if you have one. To make sure your Wordpress blog is safe please ensure:
1. Any Wordpress blog (including Flexsitez) has the Wordpress, theme, and plugins up-to-date
2. Any unused themes, especially the Wordpress default themes, are removed if they are not in use. ** very important
3. Any un-used blogs are deleted to avoid an unnecessary entry point for hackers.

To ensure the integrity of our servers we may need to suspend any blog that is not updated to avoid putting our server at further risk.

IF YOU GET HACKED
We understand forgetting to update Wordpress happens, and how frustrating it can be when a hacker hits an outdated blog. We take pride in our level of service and will do our best to help clean up your blog and won’t leave you on your own. If it is compromised we have kept a November 19th backup of the sites so we can restore it to before the major new wave of Wordpress hacks hit. This is our best chance to ensure we can help clean your account effectively.

EMAIL ISSUES

We are winding down on the lingering migration issues. The biggest one we are seeing is clients being blocked by the new security due to a device trying to connect via the old security ports and protocols for email.
 
If you find you are unable to access your site or email it is most likely because your IP got blocked. Please send an email to support@portfoliositez.com and we can unblock the IP and check what caused the block.
 
IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING AN EMAIL ISSUE
If you are experiencing issues with email: the old host names need to now be replaced. If you are experiencing email issues please try replacing the incoming and outgoing servers to mail.yourdomain.com , replacing 'yourdomain.com' with your email address domain (ie me@test.com would be mail.test.com). If there is a '+' in the email address (ie me+test.com) please replace the '+' with an '@'.
 
This new server requires SMTP authentication. If you find that you are able to receive email but cannot send email, your email client may not be properly configured for SMTP authentication, which is required by your mail server.
SMTP authentication means that a username and password are required for outgoing mail connections as well as for incoming connections.
In the Outgoing server section of your mail client, you will want to ensure that both the full email username (user@yourdomain.com) and the email account’s password are entered, and that either the Server Requires Authentication box is checked (if present), or that the Authentication type selection is not set to None.
If you’re using a mail client such as Mac Mail and you have multiple email accounts on your server configured in the mail client, you will want to ensure that each account has its own outgoing server configured with its corresponding email account password; you will not be able to use the same outgoing server with multiple email accounts due to the SMTP authentication requirement.
 
The Ports to use are:
SSL:
incoming: IMAP -> 993 | POP -> 995
outgoing: SMTP: 465
 
NON-SSL
incoming: IMAP -> 143 | POP -> 110
outgoing: SMTP: 25

MIGRATION: KNOWN ISSUES

The migration is complete but unfortunately it did not go as flawless as we and the server provider had hoped. 

 

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING EMAIL ISSUES: 

If you are experiencing issues with email: the old host names need to now be replaced.

* If you are experiencing email issues please try replacing the incoming and outgoing servers to mail.yourdomain.com , replacing 'yourdomain.com' with your email address domain (ie me@test.com would be mail.test.com).

*If there is a '+' in the email address (ie me+test.com) please replace the '+' with an '@'. This should resolve the email issue.

*The settings should connect with SSL and use port 143 with password authentication.

SERVER MIGRATION 4-24-17

SITE MIGRATION UPDATE: The new servers are physically getting moved to a new location in the datacenter so that the current IPs can still be used. This does, however, delay the final sync of information from the old servers to the new until this evening. If possible PLEASE AVOID making changes to your site today/tonight. This will ensure no changes are made to the old server after the sync occurs.

We are upgrading our servers to fresh new servers with better specs which will make your sites run even faster!! During this time we ask that you avoid making changes to your site, if at all possible. The transfer will require NO CHANGES on your end, however there will be a propogation period where people might see either the old or the new server which is why keeping changes to a minimum is requested.

Server Maintenance tonight
