How to decrease bandwidth usage
Posted by Jen on 29 June 2009 02:58 PM

Bandwidth refers to how much data transfer Portfoliositez allots to run through your website. If, for example, the file size of your home page is 50 KB then every time someone visits or 'hits' your home page this counts as 50 KB worth of data being transferred from your website and hence you will have used up 50 KB worth of 'bandwidth'.

Bandwidth limits vary depending on the level of service:

Bandwidth Limit: 2500 MB

Bandwidth Limit: 10,000MB

Bandwidth Limit:20,000MB

If you are nearing your bandwidth limit you may want to consider the following:

1. Remove any old videos if you have any since they eat up bandwidth fast.
2. Decrease the number of default posts for your blog so only 2-3 posts show at a time giving your clients the option to view older posts.
3. Reduce file size of images uploaded to the blog or site prior to uploading. Uploading full size images which are usually well above 1MB each can eat up bandwidth. Pre-sizing them to a lower height/width and kb (100-150 and below is good) will help decease unnecessary bandwidth usage. :-)
